Reflections & tips
from my yoga journey
Slow Mornings
I spotted an article in Women’s Health Magazine about ‘Slow Mornings’ and while it irks me that it’s become the latest social media/ Tik Tok trend, it did get me thinking about my own morning routine…
For years, before and during covid I started my days with meditation, yoga and journaling… spending those quiet and precious moments before the world fully wakes up, with myself.
2023 Iyengar Yoga Australia Convention…
2023 Iyengar Yoga Convention - the humility and grace with which Abhijata Iyengar guided and supported us made me fall more in love with Iyengar yoga… and my phone usage was down 80%.
It’s difficult to put into words all the insights and lessons I took away from the 2023 Iyengar Yoga Convention. I think much of it is still being absorbed and much more will not land for quite some time - tiny seeds which will grow alongside my practice.
The importance of recovery…
I think it's only now that we have been given some space and freedom again that I can finally take a step back to reflect and process everything that's happened.
Let it go, let it flow
Maybe I've been spending too much time by the river, but this month's blog has less to do with yoga, and more to do with letting things flow…
Taking Time In
Instead of taking 'time out' from our lives, we've had to take time in. Instead of running away or finding distractions, we have become more deeply immersed in ourselves.
Letting go of expectations
The first time I did a 10-day silent meditation retreat I loved it and immediately booked in for the following year. My second time, however, was not as sweet.
Repeating things, like we often do in yoga, can be helpful to deepen our understanding and allows us make adjustments. But only if we approach it with an open and curious mind!
30-min Restorative Practice
The use of props in Iyengar yoga can sometimes be seen as ‘cheating’ or a way to make the pose easier, and in part that's true.
